Duncan split his childhood between Nova Scotia, Canada and Ojai, California, in a fractured but loving family of practicing Buddhists of the Tibetan lineage.

He eventually found his way to New York City, where he pursued everything under the sun but film. It wasn’t until his younger brother found himself at NYU’s film school that Duncan realized how important the medium is – and how one can engage with the world so profoundly through it. Together, they jumped into the deep end and learned how to swim. Many music videos and fashion films later, Duncan is now focusing his energies on commercial and narrative work.

Drawing inspiration from his own poignant life experiences, from the auspicious to the beautiful to the haunting, Duncan is convinced that the craft of filmmaking is also the science of empathy.

Together with his girlfriend, Sheila, and son, Lucius, he now splits his time between New York and Berlin.
